Celebrated Gospel musician Betty Bayo has passed away.

Bayo passed on Monday at the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH).

A representative of the family in a press briefing streamed on her ex-husband Prophet Kanyari's social media pages said she suffered from leukemia and had been admitted in hospital since last week.

“We want to tell members of the public that today, at 1.03 pm we have lost Betty Bayo, it is no longer a rumour. Betty was unwell since last. she was diagnosed with acute mild cancer, that is leukemia.

“She was suffering from excessive bleeding, and the doctors tried to do their best. She had been taken to AAR Kiambu Road and later transferred to KNH. The doctors tried their best but the will of God prevailed,” the representative said flanked by Kanyari and Bayo’s partner.

Bayo's body has been moved from KNH to the Kenyatta University Teaching and Referral Hospital.

"All other communication and brief will come later."

Bayo, who rose to national fame in Kenya’s gospel music industry, built a strong following over the years through her uplifting songs, ministry engagements and public appearances.

Her hit track 11th Hour has been widely celebrated for its message of hope and divine intervention.

Fellow artists and industry stakeholders have poured in tributes, describing her as a humble, gifted, and inspirational figure whose music touched countless lives.

"RIP to one of our own, Betty Bayo. A true vessel of God whose voice & ministry touched countless lives. Her passion for the Gospel will never be forgotten. To her family, friends, & the entire Gospel fraternity, may God comfort & strengthen you," Gospel Musician Daddy Owen said.
